It is not essential to have any riding experience. The physical prerequisite is that students must be able to ride a bicycle. You need to have the ability to balance and stabilize a two-wheeled vehicle. If you have not ridden a bicycle in a long time, it would be a good idea to get some practice before attempting to ride a motorcycle.

Once you have located a site you can register through the vendors’ website. You may also call the provider; they will be happy to schedule you into the next available class that fits your schedule.
The BRC is perfect for beginners or those who have some prior experience but have not ridden in some time. If you are a current motorcycle rider but have never taken a riding course, this is also a good option. The Experienced Rider Course is for those who have at least a full year of current riding experience and have ridden around 1,000 miles.
The BRC is approximately 15 hours total. Check with your local training site for scheduling options. Approximately five hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of riding exercises in a controlled environment provide a complete introduction to motorcycling. The Experienced Riding Courses are approximately 8 hours total.
If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you will need the signature of a parent or legal guardian in order to take the course. Ask your chosen site to see if your parent or legal guardian will need to come to class with you.
If you are under 18 years of age, you must have completed a MOST program, and show proof of completion prior to receiving your instruction permit. You must hold your motorcycle instruction permit for 12 months or until you are 18 years of age before you can add the endorsement to your driver’s license. If you are under 18 years of age, your parent or guardian must sign an Affidavit of Liability and Guardianship for you to be issued your instruction permit. A motorcycle instruction permit allows you to operate a motorcycle while under the immediate, proximate supervision of an adult who is at least 21 years of age and holds a valid COLORADO license endorsed for motorcycles. If you are under the age of 18, per Colorado Revised Statute 42-2-106, if you are not riding with your MOST instructor or the parent or guardian who signed your Affidavit of Liability, you must have your parent or guardian’s permission to ride with another adult who meets the requirements of having a valid driver’s license endorsed for motorcycles.
Yes, a Motorcycle is provided during the BRC. A DOT compliant helmet is also provided during the BRC.
You must bring a valid driver’s license or state identification card (no out-of-state licenses accepted for students 18 or younger). You must also provide appropriate protective clothing for the riding portions of the course. This includes eye protection (glasses and sunglasses are fine), full-fingered gloves, a long-sleeve shirt or jacket, long pants (no holes in them), and footwear that covers the ankles. Please note that these items are mandatory for all riding exercises. You will not be permitted to participate in the course without the required equipment.
If you are taking the BRC, you are able to use your own motorcycle. However, Motorcycles used for instruction must be intended for street use by the manufacturer. Motorcycles used for a two-wheeled Motorcycle Course must abide by the standards set forth in the applicable, current, and approved, the MOST curriculum in which the Motorcycle is being used. Please contact your vendor to discuss this prior to the first day of class. As insurance and liability, paperwork will need to be shown and signed. If you are taking an Experienced Course (BRC 2 or Intermediate Course) you are obliged to bring your own motorcycle. There are no restrictions on size or type, but you must have proof of current insurance and valid registration.
You will receive a course completion card (which is sometimes referred to as a road test waiver card) after successfully completing the BRC or Experienced Rider Course. This card, when presented with a valid CO Driver License, will allow you to apply for a “Class M” Motorcycle License without taking the DMV motorcycle road test.
You must successfully complete a course at a Motorcycle Operator Safety Training Vendor site in Colorado in order to qualify for the waiver benefit.
Each vendor has set their own policy regarding students who do not pass the knowledge test or skills evaluation. Please speak to your vendor directly if this situation happens.
If you need to reschedule before class starts, please call the vendor where you scheduled the course at least 48 hours before the beginning of the originally scheduled class. CO MOST is not able to offer any refunds or take cancellation notices for you.
